Gievi Spell Tattoos
The Gievi wizards of Breddesa and Borun Dun follow a different mystical tradition to the rest of the world. Where other wizards inscribe their spells on paper with special inks, the Gievi undergo painful tattooing ceremonies to inscribe their spells onto their bodies.
The cost of inscribing a spell onto herself costs a follower of the Gievi tradition ten times the normal amount (500gp per level of the spell). However, these can never be stolen or removed from the caster’s body short of severe scarring or dismemberment. If the bearer receives a critical hit, they must pass a Constitution saving throw with a DC equal to the damage received. If they fail, a random one of their tattoos has become damaged and must be re-inscribed.
This tradition replaces the use of a normal spellbook. A character that uses this method to store and prepare spells may not avail the use of a normal spellbook but may still cast spells stored on spell scrolls. Another spellcaster cannot read the spells stored in tattoo form and would be unable to transcribe these spells unless they have ample time to become familiar with the tradition and its unique methods of annotating magical invocations.
